HighTech Women founder Lucy Marcus selected as World Economic Forum Global Leader for Tomorrow

What's is all about?

Global Leaders for Tomorrow (GLTs)

In 1992 the World Economic Forum developed a special community called "Global Leaders for Tomorrow" (GLTs). The community, through their programme, aims to create and engage a global network of young business and non-business leaders, dedicated to working together in areas of social and environmental development and entrepreneurship.

The Global Leaders for Tomorrow represent the new generation of leaders who are "global" in terms of their accomplishments and potential. They are young but proven leaders from business, politics, the arts and civil society. The members of the GLT community demonstrate a commitment to addressing issues beyond their immediate professional interest. GLTs are global decision-makers already holding positions of considerable influence and responsibility. Each year 100 outstanding international leaders from business and society are selected by the Forum's Management Board.

The GLTs have the overall responsibility for their community, but they are supported by a special GLT team within the World Economic Forum. The team manages the GLT selection process, coordinates the GLT Task Forces and other GLT activities including the GLT Summit, and serves as a hub for the GLT community.

GLT Activities

In line with the World Economic Forum's commitment to building partnerships between business and society to improve the state of the world, the GLTs are integrated into the activities of the World Economic Forum with the objective of identifying and addressing issues on the global agenda.

To facilitate processes of developing and sharing ideas, opinions and knowledge and to create a real community spirit, GLTs are invited for the first three years after nomination to a special GLT programme at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum and are invited for the first five years after nomination to an annual GLT Summit and to regional activities of the World Economic Forum.

The GLT community is active throughout the year. Its projects and task forces aim at identifying and addressing locally, in innovative and entrepreneurial ways, the global issues.

GLT Selection Criteria

The Global Leaders for Tomorrow are men and women born on or after 1 January 1965 who should have:

  • already achieved a position of considerable influence and responsibility.

  • demonstrated leadership and commitment in addressing social issues beyond their immediate professional interest.

  • demonstrated a commitment to the principles and objectives which guide the World Economic Forum.

They represent a diverse group who come from business, politics, public interest groups, the media, the arts and sciences.
