Thanks for organising such a great night - it was fantastic. ---------------- Just a note of thanks for making it possible for us to attend the film premiere last night. It was a fantastic film, violent, shocking and thoroughly moving and although 'enjoy' is not quite appropriate in relation to the subject matter, I did not leave unmoved. It was a great opportunity, particularly as I do not go to the cinema much, and this would probably not have been my choice if I had. Thank you for saving me from missing out!!

HighTech Women is all about meeting and mentoring, but it is also about balance and camaraderie. HighTech Women is pleased to have been able to offer the opportunity to attend an exclusive movie screening! Twentieth Century Fox and Sky Pictures invited the members of HighTech Women to see WHEN THE SKY FALLS. For a lot of us this was the first time to attend a screening -- it was a great night to get together. We've put some of the reactions and thoughts of people that were there ... We look forward to having more social events, so if you have any ideas about interesting events for the future, let us know! I attended last night's screening of When The Sky Falls and wanted to give you my feedback... brilliant, shocking, unnerving, inspiring etc etc. I did not look at my watch once (always a good sign for me)!. Since last night I have already recommended the movie to several friends and family. I thought in particular the performance of Joan Allen was stunning - she is such a versatile actress and a true chameleon. I think its also a movie that crosses the gender divide i.e. appeals to both men and women - enough action for the men and strong characters/female lead for the women. Many thanks for the opportunity to see the film and hope it does as well as it should. ---------------- So many thanks for organising such a great evening. Not only was the film excellent, it was so good to be talking with so many like minded women. ---------------- Thanks so much for organising the preview last night. My friend and I really enjoyed it - although, given the disturbing plot, enjoy probably isn't quite the word! I was amazed and inspired by the woman journalist's courage and persistence at reporting the truth about Dublin's drug scene. ---------------- Fantastic, but (literally) shockingly violent. It's a long time since I've had such a visceral reaction to a film and I found it almost unbearable in places, though that may have been partly due to knowing Dublin and identifying a bit too much... Joan Allen is a wonderful actress (spot-on Dublin accent, too!), and the film is a great and much-deserved tribute to Veronica Guerin. Many thanks.

Starring Joan Allen, Patrick Bergin, Pete Postlethwaite Directed by John Mackenzie When The Sky Falls is based on the real-life events which led up to the murder of crime journalist Veronica Guerin in Dublin in June 1996. It stars Joan Allen in the role of Sinead Hamilton. Patrick Bergin plays the character of Detective Sergeant Mackey. The cast also includes Liam Cunningham, Jimmy Smallhorne and Pete Postlethwaite. Directed by John Mackenzie (The Long Good Friday), from a script by Michael Sheridan, Ronan Gallagher and acclaimed Irish novelist Colum McCann, the film was shot entirely in Dublin, Ireland using the actual locations of incidents featured in the story wherever possible. The screenplay grew out of a collaboration between Veronica Guerin herself and fellow journalist Michael Sheridan which began eight months prior to her death. The public outcry which followed her death was un-precedented. Political apathy gave way overnight to the introduction of sweeping new laws and the foundation of the criminal assets bureau, whose powers, in effect, suspend the presumption of innocence. The efficacy of these radical laws is now being investigated by police forces throughout Europe and America. In a cruel twist of fate, interim injunction which the criminals took out against Veronica to prevent her from continuing to 'out' them in the press, could not be set aside before she was murdered. This film is technically in contempt of those same court orders and it is why all of the names have been changed. Prejudice of trials is a further issue, although a receding one in the light of the non-jury trials which all of those responsible for her murder are currently facing. Albeit in the person of Sinead Hamilton, the story of Veronica Guerin's fight will be told. |
