NEWS RELEASE 30 March 2000

WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY MEET AND MENTOR

HighTech Women, a new on-line and off-line meeting and mentoring place for women in technology and technology related sectors, was launched this month. It brings together an impressive and diverse group of women to talk and write about their work, mentor one another, and to do business.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting, founder Lucy P. Marcus of Marcus Venture Consulting, said: "HighTech Women is for and by women working in technology or technology-related sectors, whether IT directors, programmers, web site designers, academics, lawyers, venture capitalists, journalists, marketers, bankers, or women involved with Internet start-ups.

"It is both aspirational and inspirational, with women in different sectors reaching out to one another, and mentoring and encouraging each other's progress, from the most senior to the most junior."

Among the on-line and off-line activities planned for HighTech Women are regular events with relevant speakers; special interest groups; expert panels; job listings/career days; schools and university outreach programmes; shadowing and mentoring schemes. The Internet resource centre at www.hightech-women.com will have information and lively interchange on a wide range of issues, from recruitment and career advancement to travel and investment.

"Created by its on-line and off-line participants, HighTech Women will grow and develop in ways that the members wish so it can best meet their needs," explained Marcus. "The overwhelming and global response we have had to the initial invitation and event demonstrates the clear need for a group that brings together women of all levels, interests and areas of technology in a supportive and good humoured atmosphere."

The next meeting of HighTech Women will take place at the University Women's Club in Audley Square, London, on Tuesday 4 April at 6.30 p.m., with 'Public Relations - What's It All About ?', the first in the "What's It All About?" series of lectures that examine pertinent issues from a 360º perspective. Women wishing to attend should register via the web site at www.hightech-women.com.
